The Yorkshire dales in the North west of The County of Yorkshire in Northern England is an area of outstanding beauty with a spectacular landscape that is unique and instantly recognisable. This hilly sheep-farming countryside with wide sweeping valleys, is charcaterised by the small patchwork fields divided by myriad dry-stone walls and each containing a 'regulation' yorkshire limestone barn. The meadows are green with masses of buttercups and wild flowers. The mountains here take the form of huge domes often with plateaus of mile upon mile of 'limestone pavement' a natural occuring land feature.
